What components make up fasteners?

2024-08-26

Standard fasteners mainly include bolts, studs, screws, set screws, nuts, washers, and rivets. Standard fasteners are divided into eleven categories, and their selection is determined based on the intended use and functionality of the fasteners

(1) Bolts are widely used in mechanical manufacturing for detachable connections, typically paired with nuts (usually with an additional washer or two washers).

(2) Nuts are commonly known as "nuts" or "screw caps". The shape is usually hexagonal, and the inner hole is threaded Used to match with bolts and tighten related components.

(3) The screw is relatively small, with a flat head, cross head, etc. on the head, and an external thread on the shaft. Usually used alone (sometimes with washers), it generally serves as a fastening or fastening function and should be screwed into the internal threads of the machine body.

(4) The actual name of a stud should be "double headed stud", with external threads on both ends and a plain screw in the middle. It is often used to connect parts with a large thickness that require a compact structure or are not suitable for bolt connection due to frequent disassembly. Studs generally have threads on both ends (single head studs have threads on one end). One end of the thread is usually firmly screwed into the component body, and the other end is matched with a nut for connection and fastening, but it also has a distance fixing function to a large extent.

(5) Wood screws are used to screw in wood for connection or fastening purposes.

(6) Self tapping screws do not require pre tapping of the working screw holes that match the self tapping screws. At the same time as screwing in the self tapping screws, the internal

threads are formed.

(7) Gaskets are used between the support surfaces of bolts, screws, nuts, etc. and the workpiece support surface to prevent loosening and reduce stress on the support surface.

(8) The retaining ring is mainly used to position, lock or stop the parts on the shaft or in the hole.

(9) Sales are usually used for positioning, as well as for connecting or locking parts, and can also be used as overload cutting elements in safety devices.

(10) The rivet has a head on one end and no threads on the stem. When in use, insert the rod into the hole of the connected component, and then rivet the end of the rod tightly to

provide a connection or fastening function.

(11) The combination of connecting pair refers to screws/bolts/self tapping screws and washers. The washer must be able to rotate freely on the screw (or bolt) without falling off after

being installed on the screw. Mainly used for fastening or securing purposes.

Special or complex fasteners (which may consist of multiple components)

Some specialized fasteners are designed to be composed of multiple components.

Expansion bolt:

Bolt expansion bolt:

Expansion sleeve: usually a slotted sleeve.

Nuts and washers

When tightening the nut, the bolt is pulled outward, causing the expansion sleeve to expand and be fixed in the concrete or other substrate.

Pull rivets (pop rivets):

Rivet body: a hollow rivet body.

Nail core: a slender rod with an enlarged head.

Use a rivet gun to pull the rivet core, causing its head to expand the rivet body, and finally the rivet core to break at the predetermined position, forming a fastening.

Combination screws/bolts:

This type of fastener is already assembled with a screw/bolt and a washer (usually a combination of spring washer and flat washer) at the factory, supplied as a whole part,Easy to install.
